Joint Head of Legal
Julia began her career with the Government Legal Service specialising in health and safety regulation. She was a lawyer in the Health and Safety Executive’s Litigation and Enforcement Team, involved in the prosecution of leading health and safety cases prior to joining the private sector in which Julia has worked in the regulatory teams of two national law firms. She continued to prosecute health and safety offences for the HSE and Local Authorities as well as defending those charged with such offences. Her experience spans a range of common law and statutory criminal offences, including fraud, corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter. She has defended clients in criminal matters prosecuted by The Insolvency Service and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, as well as various local authorities. She also has long running and extensive knowledge of representing clients at inquests and in Enforcement Notice appeals.
Julia joined the Finch legal team in September 2019 where she uses the insight of poacher turned gamekeeper (in common with our former HSE inspector experts) to train, advise, defend and represent clients facing regulatory investigation and prosecution as well as at Inquests and during Enforcement Notice Appeals.
She is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association and often speaks at careers fairs and in schools about pursuing a career in the law as well as mentoring those who wish to do the same.
