Short Sighted — Estimating personal noise exposure

noise-induced hearing loss

In a claim for noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), the Claimant said she was exposed to noise from the grinding of lenses for glasses.

A Finch acoustic engineering expert was instructed to assess the Claimant’s noise exposure jointly. The expert trawled the internet, published documents, and a large database containing noise levels that Finch have, but could find no reference to the grinding of glass lenses. All they could find was a picture in a trade magazine of a similar factory. Using their experience of surface grinding and the layout of the factory in the picture, the expert was able to estimate the Claimant’s daily personal noise exposure.
