Our client, a ventilated air methane (VAM) abatement process specialist are installing a new VAM abatement system at an Australian coal mine. They had developed a suite of process safety documentation during the FEED (Front End Engineering Design) stage for the mine to ensure full process safety compliance with the new process.
Project Summary
Challenge:
The project challenge was to assure the mine that the technology was safe to use, and would not affect existing critical safety infrastructure. Finch was asked to carry out an independent peer review for the VAM abatement process specialist so that they could demonstrate a robust Process Safety framework during the FEED stage of the project to ensure the Australian coal mine was fully compliant with the new abatement system to be put in place.
The specialist had used multiple tools such as Hazard Operability (HAZOP) Study, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Bowtie Analysis as part of their Process Safety documentation and Finch were tasked to carry out the independent Peer Review to ensure all hazards and risks were identified and suitable safeguards were included to reduce the risks.
