An update on Finch’s fundraising activities

Finch charity events

You may have heard that Finch turns 30 this year and while we plan on celebrating with our clients, suppliers and acquaintances in September, the Finch Community are also busy fundraising for our charity of the year Burton & District Mind. We have set ourselves a huge goal of raising £30,000 throughout 2022. Luckily the Directors have agreed that whatever we as a community can raise Finch will donation match ? (phew).

Why did we choose Burton and District Mind

We were keen to partner with Burton and District Mind as mental health services are severely underfunded in comparison to services for physical conditions. The NHS Five Year Forward View pointed out that one in four of us will experience mental health problems, and mental illness is the single largest cause of disability. Fortunately there is now good evidence that tackling some major mental health problems early reduces subsequent problems, improves people’s life chances, and also saves money for the wider economy. (Ref NHS) By partnering with the local branch of Mind all the money we raise will go back into the local community and Finch is all about the community.

What have we done?

In April we held our Bake and a Brew Sale and in spite of the weather scuppering our plans to host it outside, we still had an amazing turn out and raised an incredible £677.84. Thank you to all that donated.

We also hosted a Big Finch Quiz of the Year for our community and their families, which went down a storm and we’re looking forward to another later on in the year (fingers crossed).

The Big Burton Carousel is this year’s art trail ran by Making Trails in Burton in conjunction with Burton and District Mind, with the theme of carousel horses. Finch have sponsored one of the horses and we were even raising money at the launch event on the 3rd June.

What are we currently doing?

If you’ve not yet seen on our social media platforms, we have just set out on our mission for Finch to become the Proclaimers. We have set ourselves a colossal challenge of walking 500 miles and then walking 500 miles more. In our first 6 days we managed a collective of 130 miles. Keep watching this space for an update on our progress.

If you would like to help us get £1000 for every mile we walk and can spare £1 please donate here, we will really appreciate it.

Coming Up

Main events include an indoor skydive and the Derbyshire Three Peaks challenge, then we have a mixture of community events such as Wimbledon and World Cup sweepstakes and maybe even an autumn themed event here at The Nest. All of this and more will be announced on our social media over the course of the year!
