Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for an engaging Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our community, based in the UK.

Position

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Finch, you will assist with developing and delivering within our Asset Management team which delivers across multiple sectors including food & drink, manufacturing, construction, agriculture and more. We are looking for a person who can add to our dynamic team of machinery consultants delivering PUWER, UKCA/ CE Marking, and machinery advice services. You will have a sound foundation in machinery, and a good core knowledge of hazard identification from first principles.

You will help to deliver new business streams and client services, whilst collaborating with your colleagues and sharing client relationships. The ideal candidate will be a go-getter who can see opportunities and help deliver the company vision.

The successful candidate will be invited to join our 6-month onboarding programme, where you will learn the full Finch process, from how enquiries are dealt with to client visits, report writing and following up. During this time, you will have the support of a buddy and also a mentor to guide you through the process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out PUWER inspections on new and existing machinery at our client’s sites
  • Conduct design reviews and assess conformity to design standards.
  • Review documentation to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Write and be involved in client proposals and the full project lifecycle
  • Manage your own time and projects to ensure they are delivered to budget and deadline
  • Undertake compliance assessments of mechanical equipment, machinery, and process equipment.
  • Implement and interpret new regulations, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Support expert witness work related to mechanical engineering matters, including personal injury and commercial claims.

Qualifications we look for

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Achieved or working towards Chartership.
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial experience
  • Proficient in conducting Safety evaluations to ensure equipment complies with industry standards
  • Strong aptitude for logical problem-solving
  • Ability to identify and implement new business opportunities with flexibility
  • Skilled in analysing complex safety-critical systems
  • Capable of performing safety assessments for mechanical machinery and equipment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Focused on working in high-risk environments with proven risk assessment capabilities
