Dom Barraclough is a Chartered Engineer with European professional registration (Eur Ing). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET), the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE), and the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). He is an Associate of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and a Critical Industry Suppliers Association (CIS) member. He leads Finch and is active in two other businesses: Tautus (mining safety) and LEAPS (leisure safety). Dom holds an MBA with Distinction from Aston on which he researched motivation and goal setting in organisations. He practices as a consultant and expert witness.
Dom started as an agricultural fitter and progressed to achieve an MSc in mechatronics including automation and robotics. He is experience with and is qualified and experienced in both electrical and mechanical systems and machines including control systems.
Having worked in industry for nearly 40 years in positions ranging from the workshop, the shopfloor to senior management and investment, his industrial experience ranges from design through manufacturing to consulting and across a wide range of sectors including automotive, manufacturing, agriculture, food processing and construction.
Dom was a named inventor on 3 patents for small and medium-sized electromechanical drive systems. He has been instructed some 200 times as an expert witness in disputes, personal injury and fatality cases, including a murder and a large plant and equipment fraud, and international arbitrations. He has acted for both defendants and claimants and on a single joint basis. Dom has given evidence in person and remotely including concurrent evidence, appeared at the TCC High Court, London and attended Crown Court Carlisle, and Preston Combined Courts.
He Chairs the National Safe Man Riding in Mines Committee (SMIM), is a Professional Registration Assessor (IEng & CEng) and is an awards judge for the IET, and the FDF annual awards. Dom has helped build several engineering-based businesses and has experience in personal, business-angel and private equity investments.
To relax he has cycled from Lands End to John O Groats three times, chased the sun in one day from the east coast England to the west coast Scotland, completed six twenty-mile two-hundred obstacles course races, two marathons (needs to do his third) and is now training to complete triathlons targeting Iron Man Alcudia in 2027 and Outlaw 2026.
