Hearing Loss from Sweets

Hearing Loss from Sweets

Project Summary

A Finch expert was instructed in a claim for hearing damage resulting from working on a production line where sweets were loaded into tins.

The Claimant was placing the travel tins on to a conveyor, on which, further down the line, the tins were loaded with boiled sweets which travelled down chutes and dropped into the tins creating a noise.

Using a tin similar to that described by the Claimant and donated by a member of Finch staff, and the sweets still in the tin, a set up replicating the chute was set up in the office and the noise levels measured. It was possible then to calculate the noise levels the Claimant was subject to from several chutes dropping sweets.
